Object Complement is a word or group of words that follow an object and it is necessary to complete the information about the object.

In English there are five Object Complements, They are :

Ø  Noun Object Complement

Ø  Adjective Object Complement

Ø  Bare Infinitive Object Complement

Ø  Present Participle Object Complement

Ø  Past Participle Object Complement

Study these following patterns :

A. NOUN OBJECT COMPLEMENT Examples : We want to appoint you a leader. They elected him prime minister Some Verbs usually followed by Noun Object Complement are : Appoint Consider Find Nominate Call Crown Make Select Choose Elect Name C. BARE INFINITIVE OBJECT COM. Examples : She had her maid prepare her lunch. I will let her go out alone. Verbs that are usually followed by bare infinitive object complement is called as Verbs of Perception, they are : Get Know Have Make Help Let E. PAST PARTICIPLE OBJECT COM. Examples : 1. I have had this book copied soon. 2. He wants his house painted white. 3. People expect that robber sentenced to death.

B. ADJECTIVE OBJECT COMPLEMENT Examples : He made us happy. She found the house empty. Some Verbs usually followed by Adj. Object Complement are : Believe Feel Make Want Find Color Keep Paint Wash Cut Leave Prefer Turn Wear Drive Like Wish D. PRESENT PARTICIPLE OBJECT COM. Examples : They saw you walking quickly Police catch him speeding. She always hear someone screaming. Verbs that are usually followed by present participle object complement is considered as Verbs of  Senses, they are : Catch Hear Notice Smell Feel Keep Observe Watch Find Leave See
